Sam on SandSam pouncing on sand.It may come as a shock to some of you that I don’t like to swim. There has been occasion when I have dipped a paw or two in to cool down but water is not my thing. I am mountain dog from Appalachia (who had never seen the ocean before my rescue).  If you throw a stick into the bay for me to fetch, I will watch it float. If you toss a ball into the ocean waves, I will watch it bob. I have no desire whatsoever to pounce into the water and flail around with all those stinky fish while getting my beautiful white coat all damp and salty. I’d rather dig in the sand. Lie in the sand. Eat the sand!

OK…the truth is I don’t know how to swim…not even the doggie paddle! Swimming does look delightful though so maybe one day I’ll learn.  In the meantime, here’s a few pictures of me enjoying some sand.

Bark back soon with more!

  1. No worries, dude!! my furry kid golden retriever isn’t keen on swimming either!! Lots of patience, love, food, etc has gotten her to at least dabble in it and she’s getting better as life goes on…
